Q: How is my information kept secure and private?

The “privacy police” department at arcalife ensure that all work done at arcalife.com conforms the strictest security and privacy policies.

Our site is behind a state of the art firewall in a high security facility in a geologically stable region.

Our database is encrypted and our website design prevents anyone from intercepting information being transferred between the database and your account. Information in the database is not kept in the name of a specific user, so no-one could ever connect information with the owner of that information.

You can find our privacy policy at the bottom of each arcalife.com page. If you have further questions send a message to the privacypolice@arcalife.com mailbox and you will receive a response within 72hrs.


Q: What is a Life Archive and how is it different to a user?

A Life Archive is a representation of a person in the arcalife site created by a user. There are various reasons that person represented may not also be an active user of the arcalife site. That person may be an ancestor, may not have been invited to the site or may have closed their user account. The family tree displays an icon which informs you if that person is a user. Users can create life content for themselves or other profiles that exist in the site. Users who create these additional person profiles also manage and own these profiles – which means their storage space and the information within them. Other family members who are users of the site can see the content of the profiles that have been created.


Q: I want to keep a file, life experience or event private to me only how do I do this?

Each experience or event has a keep private flag that you can check to make that individual item private to you. In the account page you can find overall security and privacy settings that allow you to make a whole section private.

By default most categories are open to be viewed by other people in your family network. The exception to this is for the personal self category which is set to “your eyes only” unless you specify otherwise. You can change your security settings in the account menu at any time.


Q: How do I get very large files like family videos into my account?

Files up to 500meg can be uploaded directly to your account through media manager. For files larger than this premium members can either

a) Download our megafile conversion software and convert their video to an up loadable file

b) Mail copies of their Cd’s to arcalife customer services for conversion and upload. The address can be found in contact us

Please note the file will be converted and standardized – as with other well known video sites this will reduce file size and marginally reduce the quality of some high definition video files


Q: Who should I invite into my family tree or friends and family network?

You can choose who you would to invite into your network but remember not to invite just anyone in, unless you want them to share in your life. We encourage you to think of arcalife.com as more like a gated community that you share with your family, extended family and close friends ; but ultimately its your place for life fun …. so you decide

Q: I have a family tree in another site can I upload that into arcalife.com?

arcalife.com supports Gedcom file types for upload. You can find the import screen at the import tree link
