How does it work?

At first arcalife might seem a bit overwhelming and we are trying hard to reduce this and help our members through the process of recording their family history.

A few basic terms and things you will see returning in our site:

1) a person is considered a Life Archive which consists of personal info (profilew data), memories, experiences & events, timeline, biography and attachments (we are looking at enhancing attachments to also support the genealogical source entity).

2) My Life basically a shortcut to your own Life Archive

3) Family Lives are all the people who you consider family. You can access their Life Archive from here. You can also access family members' life archives via your Family Tree via the Options menu on the related node.

4) History Search gives you access to all our source data integrations as well as hundred of millions of other online family trees. You can search data and import this directly to your Family Archive (the imported records will basically become Life Archives inside Family Lives)

5) Showcases is our multimedia section for photos, videos and other cool stuff. There are some unique features here like being able to create a 4 minute 3D flash of someone's life using a cube.

So this is at a high level how it works, shortly i will be adding content on the specific areas to help you understand more how it works together. In the meantine if you encounter something in our site that you find confusing, not working well or other feedback feel free to post it here. Don't worry I can take the criticism

Turn around on Bugs

I just wanted to share that we are currently very much focusing on getting all the little bugs out of the site. We are in a unique position where resolving these little glitches can be done very quickly. If you find a problem with the site (usually means you will be be seeing the "Oops" popup) I can almost garantee that the issue will be resolved in less than 24 hours.

So please if you run into an issue report it here....

The only exception is the FamilySearch members where we have identified some issues but these appear to be residing on the FamilySearch side so there is not much we can do other than working with LDS to help get these resolved.

Thanks,
Daniel

FamilySearch Integration

As some of you might now we are currently the only online website that is fully integrated with New FamilySearch. This means that effectively you canm import and synchronzie your FamilySearch Family Tree into arcalife. Inside arcalife you will be able to add more content like memories, timelines, photos, videos etc and at the same time keep the core genealogical data synchronized between the two.

The reason why i added an article inside the Bugs forum is that we have recently seen timeouts occur during the synchronization steps. The timeouts occure on the FamilySearch API and we are working with FamilySearch to get these resolved. The problem seems to be solely on thw FamilySearch side where there are some stability issues with their platform.

Our current list of new features

We are currently considering adding the following functionality to our site. It would be great to get some feedback on any of these:

- Improve our support for "sources". We haven't done a very good job at supporting family history source documents. There are a few different ways on how we can add this but possibly we change the current "Attachments" tab on a Life Archive to "Docs & Sources"

- Add in Gedcom export. This one has been long overdue and I don't think it needs any further explanation

- Tree Matching. arcalife has some unique integrations with other online sources. Our idea is that Tree Matching would consists of 3 or 4 different scenarios:
1) matching people in your tree to other people inside arcalife
2) matching people in your tree to source records (since we do have a few billion source documents it would be a nice way to automatically find source docs for existing family members)
3) matching people in your tree to other online trees (since we do have integrations to other online tree - several hundred million records actually - it would be good to see if other trees have matches for existing family members)
Of course there are more scenarios but i would like to start simpler and enhance as we go along as well as receive any feedback?

- Ablity to assign tasks to family circle members. This is kind a related to our % complete model. Basically scenarios like asking your uncle Joe to upload a profile photo for aunt Suzy etc.

- Ability to merge profiles / life archives. Again long overdue and i don't think this one needs any explanation.

- We access to a lot of materials which follow more into the category of tips on family history research. We are thinking about integrating these into the site as a "Ask the Expert" model.

I would love to hear any feedback from our existing member base on these items or any others?

Thanks,
Daniel
